Hiraeth
Landscapes of the Vale of Clwyd by Helen Job

Hiraeth, in the dictionary translates as longing or nostalgia. This does not do the word justice as, to a native Welshman or Welshwoman, it is sometimes related especially to their home and their love of it. In my landscape paintings I try to capture the feeling I have for my part of the world, the weather systems that exist in the Vale and the way the light plays on the hills and fields. It is not a dramatic landscape compared, say, to the Alps or the Sahara, but it has its own particular charms
